The Plague
Study and discuss the effects of the Bubonic Plague on world history as exemplified through art, historical writing, and literature. Note: Late start class commences April 10, 2012, and runs five weeks.
Emphases: Critical Thinking and Writing; Synthesis of Art, History, Geography, and Literature

Meets Live: Tuesdays, 3:00-4:00 p.m. Pacific Time, for five tutorial hours

Prerequisite: Reading at the eleventh grade level; some experience with critical reading.
Class Fee: $75.00 for academic students (includes books, except for the required world atlas), limit twelve students or $25.00 for auditors (no books included), limit eighteen students

Pre-Collegiate Writing (Self-Paced Option)
The Pre-Collegiate Writing Tutorial emphasizes expository, analytic, and persuasive writing. Students complete the following projects: a persuasive personal statement similar to a college entrance essay; a short expository essay based on a non-fiction text; a timed essay similar to the SAT or ACT writing portion; a medium-length literary analysis. The Tutorial includes sixteen open-source quizzes. Pre-Collegiate writing equals a year’s credit in Language Arts/Writing at the high school level.
Emphases: Expository, Analytic, and Persuasive Writing
Students may consult with a tutor for up to twelve hours.
Evaluation: Sixteen quizzes (open book and note), ten lessons from Stewart English, four papers

Self-Paced Progymnasmata
The Self-Paced Progymnasmata Tutorial emphasizes classical writing in creative, narrative, persuasive, and analytic forms. This tutorial equals half a year of Language Arts/Writing at the high school level.
Class Fee: $200.00 (per four project package, includes e-book based on individual choices and up to ten hours of individual consultation with a tutor)
Stewart English
Improve your writing at the sentence-level through a short-term tutorial featuring Donald Stewart's series. Your understanding of and facility with grammar and punctuation will increase amazingly in a short period of time.
